Cultural Diversity/Cultural Competency for Case Management Practice (CM 13)

Course Description: 

URAC’s Case Management Standard 13 requires that managed care organizations provide training to its staff on cultural competency appropriate to the populations served.  This training session is designed to promote education in cultural awareness of Latino cultural differences, which may affect the provision of case management services by an MCO or other managed care company.

 

Target Audience:

Managed Care Organizations interested in Accreditation and/or Re-Accreditation from URAC in the new Core Standards and Case Management Standards.

 

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand some of the generalities of the Latin American Culture versus the North American Culture and how these cultural differences can affect client and case management relationships.

  • Understand how knowledge of the Latin American Culture can be used to offer guidance for case managers who are working with Spanish speaking clients.

  • Understand strategies for resolution of cultural conflicts that can affect the quality of care in the case management process.
